July 19, 1963 - One of the leaders of the Communist Viet Cong warned the United States today that the guerrilla fighting in South Vietnam was the “bloodiest and biggest hot war in the world.” In a broadcast over the clandestine Viet Cong radio, Nguyen Hu Tho, chairman of the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam, said America was “getting bogged down in an adventurous, stupid, and issueless war. We want to tell the U.S. government that we will struggle until final victory for independence, whatever sacrifices we have to make. We have adequate conditions to pursue a long or even a very long war, and what Kennedy should understand is that victory will undoubtedly be ours.”
