Wilma Rudolph the AP Female Athlete of 1961

Dec. 18, 1961 - Wilma Rudolph (right), the Olympic track star, today won The Associated Press award as female athlete of the year for the second year in a row. Miss Rudolph won 3 Olympic gold medals in 1960 and set a world record for the women’s 100-meter dash last July 19 when she was clocked in 11.2 seconds in Stuttgart, Germany.
