Oct. 2, 1962 - After a batting drill today, during which Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, and other Bombers demonstrated they hadn’t lost their touch at the plate, Yankee manager Ralph Houk said, “The club is in fine shape, and I couldn’t be happier. In fact, we’re in better shape than we were for the series last year.” The Yankees are still in the dark regarding their opponent in the World Series. Many on the club were rooting for the Dodgers to beat the Giants in their playoff series because the larger park in Los Angeles would make the players’ share of the gate bigger in the series. The Bombers are also familiar with Chavez Ravine because the Los Angeles Angels share it with the Dodgers.
