July 15, 1962 - The New York Yankees blasted their way through a doubleheader with the Athletics in Kansas City. Rallying twice in the first game, the Yanks won, 8-6, on Yogi Berra’s 2-run homer in the 10th inning. Two homers by Roger Maris had helped dissipate Kansas City’s early five-run lead. Two home runs by Elston Howard and one by Bill Skowron paced the world champions in an 11-3 explosion in the second game. The Bombers now hold a two-and-a-half game lead over the second-place Los Angeles Angels.
